Comparative Equality and Anti-Discrimination Law

This casebook compares U.S. equality and anti-discrimination law with the law of several other legal systems, such as South Africa, China, Colombia, India, Brazil, and several European states as well as the European Union and the Council of Europe. Coverage includes introductory materials on theories of equality and sources of equality law, and materials on contested topics such as marriage inequality, employment discrimination, affirmative action, reproductive rights, secularism and the rights of religious minorities, hate speech and disability rights. Extensive chapter notes add context to the developing law in these subject areas. The casebook is recommended for law school lecture classes, seminars, summer programs, and undergraduate classes in legal studies, sociology, and political science. Instructors interested in “flipping the classroom” should refer to the web course page on this website for information about the Stanford web course that can be used as a supplement to the casebook.

The 3rd edition of the casebook is available for sale and will be shipped by Edward Elgar Publishing, UK, starting in February 2020. The book is available for a 20% discount if purchased directly from the publisher.
